40,000 college places already snapped up
ABOUT 40,000 college places have already been snapped up by students, despite recent attacks on the CAO website.
There were no incidents on the CAO website yesterday, although the centralised college admissions service is continuing to fend off cyber attacks.
"We are managing to thwart them at the moment," CAO operations manager Joe O'Grady said. The CAO is now liaising with the gardai about the attacks, which closed its website for periods last Monday and Wednesday.
This week, the CAO received 32,847 acceptances to round one offers made last Monday, on top of about 7,000 acceptances in earlier rounds involving other groups, such as mature students. Online acceptances account for over 95pc of the total. The deadline for round-one acceptances is Monday and round-two offers will be made next Thursday.
