€3m Lotto rollover

THERE was no winner of the €2.4m Lotto jackpot last night.

The winning numbers drawn were 4, 5, 7, 18, 24, 32 and the bonus number was 17. More than 35,000 players won prizes on the draw including three winners of €25,000. There was no winner of the €350,000 Lotto Plus One draw. The winning numbers were 6, 7, 13, 26, 38, 42 and the bonus was 43. There was also no winner of the €250,000 Lotto Plus Two draw. The winning numbers were 2, 12, 15, 17, 20, 41 and the bonus was 18. The weekend jackpot is now heading towards €3m.


The Government has given the go-ahead for the building of a new prison in Cork.

The new building, which will be erected on the site of the current jail, will house 275 prisoners and have a maximum capacity for 315 inmates. It is due to be completed and ready to be opened in 2015.


Researchers at the cutting-edge Tyndall Institute are stopping work today to highlight concerns about their pay, promotion prospects and conditions.

The staff, who are not allowed to strike under the terms of the Croke Park pay and productivity agreement, are taking a day's leave. According to the Irish Federation of University Teachers, staff at the UCC-based Tyndall are earning up to one-third less than they would if employed in other departments at the college.


A number of Customs posts are to receive new X-ray scanners.

Revenue's Customs service has commenced a process to replace scanning equipment at Dublin and Shannon airports as well as Rosslare Ferry Port, Finance Minister Michael Noonan has confirmed.


'Golden Oldies' are being sought for a new study aimed at examining the mental benefits of physical exercise.

Participants aged 65 and above will be invited to spend 20 minutes on a cyber-cycle, which combines a traditional exercise bike with an interactive video game. They can compete with other riders, or enjoy the scenery along a virtual bike path through a woodland setting or the cityscapes of Paris.
