MORE than 200 Irish soldiers travelled to Chad yesterday for peace-keeping duties.

The members of the 102nd Battalion will join the first half of the 400-strong group who travelled to Chad on January 25. The tour of duty will last until June.

Commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Mick Murray, the 102nd Battalion will help protect some 100,000 refugees who have fled the violent conflict in Darfur as well as 50,000 internally displaced people.
