Watch: Explainer on the other battle in 1916 - the Battle of the Somme

The other key battle for Irishmen and women in 1916 was the Battle of the Somme with over 3,500 Irish soldiers killed.

The Battle of the Somme took place between 1 July and 18 November 1916 in which more than 1,000,000 men were wounded or killed, making it one of the bloodiest battles in human history.

This is an animated film exploring the Battle of the Somme, with a particular focus on the roles of the 36th (Ulster) Division and the 10th and 16th (Irish) Divisions.

Using a unique method of 2.5D projection, archive imagery is brought to life like never before to tell a story of the battle.
