Listen to Stories from 1916: Margaret Skinnider, the Rebels' sniper

In this original recording from 1955, Margaret Skinnider, the Rebels' sniper at the College of Surgeons, tells her first hand account of the week.

Margaret Skinnider came from Scotland to join the Easter Rising. A crack shot, she was garrisoned in the Royal College of Surgeons and sniped from that position.

She was the only female wounded in the fighting, and continued to fight for Ireland's independence and women's rights for the rest of her life.
