SOME 15,000 people called the Revenue Commissioners yesterday seeking help filing their property tax returns, writes Paul Melia.

The calls were made between 8am and 5pm, with tens of thousands more expected to call today and tomorrow before a deadline to register for the tax expires.

The deadline for filing by post was reached on November 7 last, but the homeowners have until tomorrow to file online.

Those experiencing problems can contact Revenue on 1890 200 255 for assistance.

"At this stage, over 600,000 people have filed but our experience is that people leave it to the last minute," spokeswoman Vivienne Dempsey said.

"We're expecting very busy days. We expect the waiting time to increase, but if you need assistance we will help you."
