11 suspects in murder cases were on bail
ELEVEN prime suspects for murders committed last year were on bail at the time for other offences.
This means that one in five murder suspects in 2012 was already before the courts.
The CSO figures were based on information taken from the Garda Pulse computer system.
The analysis showed that a total of 22,762 crimes were suspected to have been committed last year by people on bail.
This compares with 24,481 in the previous year and 10,397 for the first half of this year.
The 2012 figure of 11 murder suspects on bail is the highest since 2007 and compares with only one for the first six months of this year.
In other categories, people on bail were suspected of carrying out 1,643 burglaries in 2012.
