€100,000 for boy struck by car

THE High Court yesterday approved a settlement of €100,000 to an 11-year-old boy who suffered "significant head injuries" in a collision between his bicycle and a car.

Bartosz Zakrzewski of Sandymount Avenue, Birr, Co Offaly, sued through his mother Monika. The action was against the driver of the car, Catriona Kelly, South Gate Birr, following a collision in Birr on July 21, 2010.

It was claimed that Bartosz, who was nine when the accident occurred, was thrown from his bike in the collision. There was no admission of liability.
