Gardai investigating 'ghost brokering' seize imitation firearms and electronics
Gardai have seized two imitation firearms and a number of electronics during an investigation into 'ghost brokering' activities today.
Gardaí working with the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) seized an imitation pistol and imitation rifle, as well as smart phones, laptops, hard drives and desktop computers in two searches carried out in Dublin.
Three bank accounts were also frozen.
No arrests were made and the investigation is ongoing.
"An Garda Síochána Special Investigations Unit attached to DMR Roads Policing Unit, Dublin Castle, have been conducting an investigation into Fraud related Insurance Ghost Brokering activities throughout the State," a garda spokesperson said.
"As part of this ongoing investigation on Wednesday 17th July 2019, members of the SIU, carried out two searches within the Dublin area.
"A number of items were seized at both locations including Smart Phones, Laptops, Desktop Computers, Hard Drives and two Imitation Firearms (imitation pistol and imitation assault rifle).
"Three Bank Accounts were also frozen under the provisions of Section 17(1) of the Criminal Justice (Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing) Act 2010 as amended. No arrests have been made and the investigation remains on going."
