Irish rock stars Kodaline were on hand to launch Ballymun Garda station’s mammoth charity cycle which will see members of the force zip down from Malin Head in County Donegal to Mizen Head in County Cork.

The cycle will take place on September 23 and aims to raise funds for Saint Francis Hospice. Sergeant Sean Herlihy initiated the charity cycle following the sudden death of his elder brother Patrick last year.

“My brother was diagnosed with liver cancer and died nine days later,” Herlihy told the Irish Independent. “So I am doing this for him.”

The Gardai have a twenty year association with Saint Francis Hospice and run regular charity drives including an annual cycle to Carlingford.

“My sister is a Garda,” Kodaline's Mark Prendergast said. “So we thought we should come along and support the cause. We won’t be cycling it as we’ll be away but I don’t know if we would make it from one end of the country to the other.”

Kodaline will launch their new album Coming Up For Air next week. “We are a bit nervous,” front man Steve Garrigan said. “Hopefully people will like it.”
