WATCH: Jarvis Cocker turns up at Irish bingo hall to call out the numbers
Attendees at a social club in east Belfast on Saturday night were treated to a surprise when Britpop icon Jarvis Cocker stepped in to take over bingo calling duties.
The ex-Pulp frontman was appearing at the God's Waiting Room club night held by Belfast DJ David Holmes at the Maple Leaf Club.
Sports journalist Laure James was at the event, and told the Belfast Telegraph: "David Homes and him were doing a DJ set. There was a lounge singer thing going on in the other bar.
"There was a small group of other people there who were going to do bingo, and he was set to do a DJ set in the main room.
"So he was invited by the Maple Leaf Social guys to go and call the bingo."
Jarvis Cocker was appearing alongside Steve Mackey as part of their Dancefloor Meditations project.
Glad to have spread true (helps as a journalist) and very positive news, given what we usually have to put up with. Here’s a clip. pic.twitter.com/iSem1z9JxK— Laure James (@LaureJames) November 26, 2017
The performance involved two 25-minutes sets where mobiles phones were switched off, and attendees were asked to sit on the floor in complete darkness.
His former band Pulp enjoyed a string of top-10 hits in the mid-90s which included 'Common People' and 'Disco 2000'.
