TV3 schedule ready for royal Christmas scrap

TV3 have returned fire on rivals RTE by releasing their Christmas schedule.

Both broadcasters will be going head to head over the festive period with TV3 depending on a Downton Abbey Christmas special on St Stephen's Night.

Billed as the most spectacular episode of the drama ever produced, the storyline will centre on Lady Rose's debutante ball where she is presented to King George V and wife Queen Mary at Buckingham Palace with elaborate sets 'fit for royalty'.

"There really is something for everyone on this Christmas on TV3.

"From holiday season movie favourites to home grown specials," said a TV3 spokesman.

While big festive movies on the Ballymount station including Clash Of The Titans, The Champ, White Christmas, Christmas With The Kranks, Fool's Gold and Free Willy.


Home produced programming will also feature, with Andrea Hayes at Dublin Airport hosting Coming Home for Christmas, which will capture families and friends reunited.

While Karen Koster and Martin King will make sure some very special children have a Christmas to remember in show Ireland's Christmas Wishes.

Cork man Graham Norton will be ringing in the New Year with a star studded The Graham Norton Show NYE Special featuring Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Christina Applegate, Paul Rudd and David Koechner; a rare appearance together by sisters Joan and Jackie Collins and a historic gathering on one sofa of the Monty Python team.

New Years' Day on TV3 treats viewers to Take That: The Circus Live At Wembley, The Celebrity Chase New Year Special and GAA on 3 with Football's Top Ten 2013 followed by Hurling's Top Ten 2013 on January 2.
