FAST cars, bizarre, childish stunts, and ridiculous haircuts -- it could only be 'Top Gear'.

Presenter Richard Hammond was flying solo in Dublin yesterday to officially launch the Top Gear Festival but, rest assured, Jeremy Clarkson and James May will tag along for the three-day event late next month.

"I could trot out the same old tired quote saying how much we love coming to Ireland, but it would be a genuine understatement," Hammond said.

"You lot are the rowdiest, loudest and warmest crowd on the circuit and I don't think there's any other audience in the world that quite enjoys seeing us fall over and fail as much as the Irish."

Hammond posed for pictures in a number of racy cars outside the Westbury Hotel yesterday morning.

The three-day festival will be held at Citywest for the first time, with organisers promising a "purpose-built" racing track and a "never before seen line-up of supercars".

Former Formula One great Eddie Jordan will be singled out for a special tribute, with Michael Schumacher's first F1 car among those that will be put through their paces.

Ticket prices start from €59 -- €6 cheaper than the cheapest tickets for last year's show at the RDS.

The Citywest tickets are €7 more expensive than the equivalent for the show in London, which organisers say relates to increased transport costs.

The eight shows will take place over three days from November 26-28.
