Victoria swaps 'Ballykissangel' for vampire's kiss
IT'S her biggest overseas role yet and US audiences have been given a glimpse of what to expect from Irish actress Victoria Smurfit in the forthcoming drama 'Dracula'.
Cast opposite Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who takes the lead, the former 'Ballykissangel' star plays Jayne Wetherby in NBC's vampire thriller.
The mother of three moved to Los Angeles with her photographer husband Doug Baxtor in 2011 and has since landed a role in the film adaptation of 'The Unkindness of Ravens', with Natalie Imbruglia and Amy Smart, as well as a guest part on hit crime series 'Missing'.
But 'Dracula', which is part of NBC's autumn schedule, will no doubt prove the biggest boost to Smurfit's career as it has been lined up for a primetime slot on Friday nights.
The series has also been picked up by Sky Living for British and Irish audiences but the broadcast date is not yet known.
'Dracula' is Meyers' first big-budget TV role since 'The Tudors'.
In the 10-episode series Dracula is in London, posing as an American entrepreneur who wants to bring a modern science to Victorian society. But his true intentions are to exact revenge on those who burdened him centuries earlier.
Dracula's plans are ultimately derailed when he falls in love with Mina, played by Jessica De Gouw of 'Arrow' fame, while Smurfit's character is also smitten by him.
The series also features fellow Irish star Katie McGrath, along with 'Game of Thrones' star Nonso Anozie and Oliver Jackson-Cohen.
