UTV hunts for 'young' Craig Doyle
UTV is looking for a "young Craig Doyle" to front its new station in the Republic, according to continuity announcer Julian Simmons.
Simmons was in Dublin yesterday to launch the search for the face of the station which starts broadcasting in Ireland next January.
The 62-year-old said: "We are looking for people who have got a bit of personality and a bit of 'oomph'. The lovely thing is the people in Dublin have the gift of the gab, and that is what we are looking for."
Another Craig Doyle would be the dream candidate, he said.
"People here already have personality," he added. "They will be wonderful on UTV Ireland, that's what we want."
The popular broadcaster has been working at the Belfast-based station for almost 24 years.
He is hoping to do more work in Dublin when the channel launch their new studios here next year.
The former air steward said that he believes the new channel will launch successfully here, despite stiff competition from the three other stations.
"We have such a great line-up of programmes that are much admired," he added.
