Undressing the upwardly mobile

In the second instalment of All in the Best Possible Taste (Channel 4), cross-dressing Turner Prize winner Grayson Perry refrained from donning a frock until near the end, when he looked very fetching at a suburban dinner party in Tunbridge Wells.

Last week he analysed working-class taste and here he focused on the middle classes, observing how upmarket brand names can give "clarity of meaning" to those with aspirational ambitions and noting the importance of "tidiness" and "symmetry" in the homes of the upwardly mobile.

In a highly entertaining film, he proved to be both a droll and a shrewd guide to his subject matter and should be just as much fun next week when he scrutinises the trappings with which toffs surround themselves.
