Toy Story was a huge box-office hit in 1996. Almost as lucrative was the spin-off Buzz Lightyear doll, which achieved sales of over €120m worldwide the following Christmas.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

In 1990, it was believed nine-out-of-10 American boys under the age of 10 owned at least one Ninja Turtle toy.

In that year alone, Ninja turtles are estimated to have made up 60% of action figure sales internationally.

Cabbage Patch Kids

These weird-looking dolls with prominent bald spots prompted a stampede in the early 80s,with fist-fights reportedly breaking out between parents at toy stores across the world.
