Today FM star leaves lunchtime slot after just 14 months
THE Today FM presenter Keith Cunningham - KC - is leaving the station at the end of March “for family reasons”.
“I’ve being commuting from my home in Cork to Dublin every week for over three years now and being away from my two baby daughters and my fiancée Rachel so much, was getting far too difficult.
‘‘I’m leaving my dream gig for my dream family, I think most people would do the same,’’ he said.
The presenter is making a move back to his former employers at Cork’s RedFM from next April.
‘‘The natural pull of his loved ones in Cork, has meant a very difficult commute for him from Crosshaven every Monday morning,’’ a spokesperson for TodayFM said.
The presenter joined the station back in 2010 to present his popular night-time show.
‘‘Today FM has been the most incredible radio station to work for. Being on a daytime schedule with Ian Dempsey, Ray D’Arcy, Tony Fenton and Matt Copper has being amazing.
‘‘I’m returning to Cork to take up a new radio presenter and management role, and to be a professional Daddy,’’ he added.
He took over the competitive lunchtime slot in November 2012 and has spent the last 14 months growing the audience 130,000 listeners.
Today FM’s CEO Peter McPartlin wished him well stating, “I would like to thank KC for his fantastic contribution to Today FM’s dynamic programming and wish him the very best.
‘‘We will miss his enthusiasm, generosity, talent and infectious personality.”
The station has not announced plans of a replacement for the popular presenter.
