Her main TV gigs are over for another year, but RTE golden girl Kathryn Thomas has not been at a loose end for long.

The blonde host is temporarily stepping away from the TV cameras and looking forward to increasing her radio air-miles when she fills in for presenter John Murray next week.

The 35-year-old will front The John Murray Show on RTE1 while the popular host is on holidays, and said it is good to keep her name in the radio mix at Montrose.

The Carlow presenter is also gearing up to spend more time in the States this summer for upcoming RTE projects.

“I’m on The John Murray show all next week so I am actually really excited about that” Kathryn told

“It’s been about a month since I did radio so I’m looking forward to getting back in again. It’s been busy, but it’s good to get a week on the radio.”

A familiar voice on the daily morning show thanks to her annual stint as host of weight-loss show Operation Transformation, Kathryn reckons listeners are familiar enough with what she does and won’t expect her to follow John’s format.

“John’s shoes are huge to fill and I wouldn’t even try to fill them,” she said. “I just go on and try to put my own stamp on the programme.

“But it is a well-warmed format and it has such a loyal listenership that I actually have very little to do”.

Despite her busy schedule, Kathryn has found time to relax this month and enjoyed a week in Spain with her other-half, restaurateur Padraig McLoughlin last week, before heading down to Kerry with her mum for a few days.

Kathryn was back in Dublin to host the Audi A3 fashion show at Harvey Nichols in Dundrum Town Centre on Thursday night.
