Samantha Mumba to join forces with Johnny Logan for RTE show

IT’S a question of ‘what’s another hit?’ for Eurovision supremo Johnny Logan as he joins Samantha Mumba for RTE show ‘The Hit’.

The two singers join the Republic of Loose in a series of head-to-head duels in RTE’s summer show The Hit.

Solo artist Mundy will take on legend Finbar Furey, while offbeat singer Julie Feeney takes on the iconic The Stunning.

Brian Kennedy and Britain's Got Talent finalist Ryan O'Shaughnessy are other big names in the weekly contest, which kicks off in the Late Late Show slot at 9.30pm on July 26

“It's true this is an eclectic mix of performers drawn in by the stature of people we have involved behind the scenes,” said a show insider.

U2 producer Steve Lilllywhite is one of the key figures in The Hit, having selected the songs that will be seen showcased by songwriters to acts they hope will turn them into hits.

Critical

“The Hit is an original take on these type of talent shows, but for songwriters of all ages, it doesn't matter what you look like. It's just about the song,” said Lillywhite.

Producers will be delighted to have landed three-time Eurovision winner Johnny Logan for the series, critical of RTE in the past, and one-time million-seller Samantha Mumba, whose debut album Gotta Tell You spent six months on the US Billboard charts in 2000.

However the 30-year-old will be hoping to resuscitate her career in the new series, which floundered after she attempted to mix music and acting in the years that followed. Since then she has appeared in 2007 reality TV show Get Your Act Together and 2008's Dancing On Ice.

Presented by Nicky Byrne and Aidan Power, the grand finale of The Hit will see the five successful artists returning to perform their song live in the O2 with the RTE Concert Orchestra.
