RTE spends over €1m on make-up and wardrobe over three years

NEW figures reveal that RTE has spent over €1m on make-up and wardrobe over the last three years – almost €1,000 per day on average.

The figures show the massive budget the state broadcaster spends on keeping its stars preened and perfect.

€421,020 was spent on make-up and hairdressing between 2011 and 2013, while €661,968 went on wardrobe.

The News and Current Affairs department takes the biggest slice of make-up the budget - €57,502 of the total €171,749 spent in 2011 went to the team.

Spending reduced from €171,749 in 2011, to €142,238 in 2012 and further down to €107,033 last year.

Meanwhile wardrobe costs at Montrose dropped from €226,595 in 2011 to €214,257 last year.

An RTE spokesperson said  that the costs covered all departments at the broadcaster, including freelancers.

In further figures revealed in The Sun it has been revealed that €18,682 went on the green room for the Late Late show last yea, or €492 per show.

Guests on the Saturday Night Show only consumed €10,425 worth of food and drink in the same period – an average of €326 per show.
