Republic of Telly stars Jennifer Maguire and Bernard O’Shea tipped for 2FM breakfast show
REPUBLIC of Telly stars Jennifer Maguire and Bernard O’Shea are being tipped to take over Hector O hEochagain’s breakfast slot on 2FM.
Another name in the running is Ryan Tubridy.
Currently, Tubridy’s slot is between 9am to 11am.
Tubridy was the last host to enjoy breakfast time success with his programme ‘The Full Irish’, which ran on the station from 2002 to 2005.
He was moved to Radio One for the 9am to 10m slot – before making a return to 2FM following the death of his broadcaster and friend Gerry Ryan in 2010.
Ratings for Tubridy’s mid-morning show have never reached the heights of Ryan’s 300,000-plus listenership.
It’s believed that station bosses are looking at the possibility of starting Tubridy’s show earlier in a bid to improve the ratings.
However, another options bosses are looking at is bringing in a new name.
Jennifer Maguire and Bernard O’Shea enjoy huge followings thanks to their success on RTE Two’s Republic of Telly.
Also being tipped is Phantom FM star Keith Walsh, and stand-in presenter Louise Walsh, who impressed when she has previously filled in for Tubridy.
The speculation about the new breakfast line-up comes as it emerged that current host Hector O hEochagain was axed from the schedules.
It’s understood he will finish with 2FM this Friday.
Speaking this morning, he thanked all his listeners but said it was “time for a new journey” and he was working on a number of television projects.
