Prog rocker Wakeman says Yes to radio slot
EX-YES rocker Rick Wakeman has been lined up to present a weekend show on a new Dublin radio station.
The former member of the 1970s 'Progressive Rock' group will host a pre-recorded show called 'Weekends with Wakeman' on Saturday nights on Radio Nova.
Wakeman has released over 120 solo albums and played with numerous stars including Black Sabbath, David Bowie, Lou Reed and Cat Stevens.
More recently, he has made TV appearances on 'Never Mind the Buzzcocks' and 'Grumpy Old Men'.
Radio Nova announced its presenter line-up yesterday, which also includes Pat Courtenay, formerly of Sunshine Radio, Greg Gaughran and Hugh O'Brien, veterans of the original Nova station, and Thomas Walsh of the Pugwash band.
'Sunday Independent' journalist Barry Egan will co-host 'Locals Only' with Carol Dooley on Sundays at 6pm.
Radio Nova CEO said: "Radio Nova has some of the most experienced names in broadcasting.
"However, we are also introducing new blood to the station, which will offer listeners an eclectic mix of presenting styles."
Mr Tighe said a gap exists in the Dublin market for something different in broadcasting and forecast the station will capture a five percent market share by 2012.
Radio Nova will employ 32 people when it broadcasts on 100.3FM from next month.
