Pat Kenny gets standing ovation from colleagues after Newstalk debut
PAT Kenny received a standing ovation from his Newstalk colleagues after signing off from his first day on-air at the commercial station.
The 65-year-old said he was overwhelmed by the support of his new comrades in Marconi House earlier today and is relieved that the show is finally underway.
Kenny said he felt more tense than nervous as he waited for the red light to come on in studio at 10am this morning.
And the Dalkey-based presenter was almost over prepared his he took the Newstalk hot seat for the first time.
“I brought far too much paper with me into studio, which you bring in as a back stop and then don’t end up using at all, to the point that certain paper I did need, it was ‘where is it’.
“I also have to be more conscious of the webcam, because we didn’t have that in Donnybrook. So there’ll be no scratching of the head.”
Kenny will spend the rest of his day today reading briefs and preparing with his team, which includes a producer, three researchers and a technician, for tomorrow’s programme.
