Paul Rudd’s boyband dreams have come to an end as One Direction have rejected the Anchorman star as a band-mate.

But Rudd could still invite the five boys to Hollywood to pursue acting careers as they had their deadpan faces down to a tee.

The hit boyband filmed a series of promos with funnyman Rudd ahead of tonight’s NBC Saturday Night Live.

Rudd is set to host the show as One D boys Harry, Niall, Zayn, Liam and Louis take to the stage.

Rudd stood in the middle of the boys and announces he was once part of the group.

“A band I used to be in but was unceremoniously asked to leave,” he said sullenly.

“Sorry Paul, no hard feelings,” the boys replied with straight faces.

Rudd added: “Well yeah there's hard feelings, there's hard feelings.”

It’s not long before Rudd catches One D fever either as the boys have to catch him as he faints in front of them.

It will be the boys' second time on the late-night show as they first appeared on SNL in April of 2012.
