Lulu will be performing to a pint-sized audience - reading a bedtime story on Christmas Day.

The Shout singer and Strictly Come Dancing star is telling the tale on TV channel CBeebies of the disorganised hedgehog who has forgotten to decorate his house or buy Christmas gifts.

The 63-year-old will be reading One Christmas Night by M Christina Butler and Tina Macnaughton, as this year's Christmas Bedtime Story.

Veteran stage and screen actor Simon Callow will also be telling children's stories on the BBC's pre-school channel across the festive period.

5ft 1in star Lulu, who suggested her professional dance partner Brendan Cole had been too tall for her after she became the fifth celebrity to be voted off Strictly, said: "Children's stories are so magical, with Christmas the most magical time of all and this brought out the child, the actress and the storyteller in me. I loved it!"

Previous incumbents of the Christmas Bedtime Story slot include Take That's Gary Barlow and former Doctor Who star David Tennant.
