Kylie Minogue replaces Jessie J on The Voice

Kylie Minogue is joining BBC version of The Voice as one of the coaches in the new series.

The Australian will join returning stars will.i.am and Sir Tom Jones in the third series with a fourth coach yet to be announced.

The Antipodean replaces Jessie J, who announced she was quitting her role as a mentor after two seasons to concentrate on her career.

"I'm very excited to become a coach on The Voice. I love the concept of the show and have been an avid viewer of both series,” the singer said.

"The search for new talent is such an important aspect of the music industry and The Voice gives us all a part to play in that. Will I be competitive? Probably more than even I imagine! Watch this space!"

Minogue, whose sister Dannii had a stint on rival show The X Factor, was reported to have been approached by the BBC over a role on The Voice two years ago but the deal fell apart after she was said to have asked for a fee of around £2.5 million.

However, she has appeared on the first series, performing her then new single.

This will be the singer’s first foray in reality television.

The controller of entertainment commissioning at the BBC Mark Linsey said: "Kylie is a hugely respected figure within the world of music and will be a fantastic addition to The Voice UK. She is a true pop icon and her longevity in the industry is testament to her creative and musical ability."

Along with Jessie J, Danny O’Donoghue, the lead singer of Irish band The Script, also announced he would not be returning for the third series.

Will said: "While I will miss Danny and Jessie, I'm excited to be returning for Season 3 and to work with Kylie and Tom. Together we will mix it up and bring new energy and ideas to the show."

BBC One controller Charlotte Moore said: "I knew the line-up wouldn't disappoint! To secure the princess of pop Kylie and announce the return of Will.I.Am and Sir Tom is a really great moment for the show, bring on The Voice Series 3, back on BBC One in January 2014!"
