Kathryn launches the search for Ireland’s New Voice
RTE today launched its rival to the X Factor, with the Kathryn Thomas fronted The Voice of Ireland.
The talent show, already a massive hit in Holland and the States, follows the usual audition format in front of a judging panel, but with the ‘twist’ that the first audition is done blind - with the judges sitting with their backs to the stage.
If a coach is impressed by the voice, they push the ‘I Want You’ button and their chair turns to face the singer. If more than one coach pushes the button, the power shifts to the singer and they get to decide which coach they want to work with.
Kathryn Thomas beat off competition form Grainne Seoige and Lorraine Keane to present the show, and she is joined by Eoghan McDermott as co-presenter. The show will go live on RTE in January for nine weeks when contestants perform in from of a studio audience. The Voice is also coming to the BBC in January, with Adele and Cheryl Cole tipped as UK judges. A US version of the show, featuring Christina Aguilera and Adam Levine from Maroon 5 as judges. The number one single ‘Moves Like Jagger’ which just topped the Irish charts was off the back of Christina Aguilera and Adam Levine’s collaboration on The Voice US.
