Josh Hartnett compares Dublin to Vegas: 'It can eat you whole'
Actor Josh Hartnett has compared his time in Dublin to Las Vegas.
The former teen heartthrob recently filmed his new Sky One series Penny Dreadful here, but said he feared giving into the temptation of partying.
Penny Dreadful is a gothic series that follows a trio on a crusade to save Victorian London from the threat of supernatural beings. While set in the capital of England, filming actually took place in Ireland, but Josh reveals there was hardly any time for the cast to enjoy pints of Guinness.
"Dublin is like Las Vegas. It can eat you whole if you spend too much time going out. We had a job to do so we weren't able to partake in too many nights out," he said, regretfully.
He's back in front of the camera with the highly anticipated series after taking some time out of the spotlight.
Much has been made of his acting break but Josh says it was never a permanent thing, rather an extended holiday.
"Someone told me recently that if you type my name into Google, the subject: 'Whatever happened to Josh Hartnett?' is one of the first things that comes up. I have never done that, by the way. I would never do it - it would make me crazy," he laughed to British newspaper Metro.
"I never thought I was walking away completely. I feel that I have always been involved in the business, just maybe more so and less at different times. Hollywood can be very easy to fall in love with but it is tempestuous - it is very easy to fall out of love with too. I guess I have taken a longer hiatus than most."
Making his career comeback on a TV show was also an unexpected move by the actor, whose big screen outings include Pearl Harbour and Lucky Number Slevin.
