US network CBS has commissioned a 'CSI' spin off series inspired by the work of Irish cyber psychologist Mary Aiken.

The TV series 'CSI: CYBER' will star Patricia Arquette and goes into production in the coming months. Aiken will get an executive producer credit and is "delighted" to be involved.

"Obviously it's very exciting," she told the Irish Independent. "I'm delighted for my discipline of cyber-psychology. It will reach a wider audience, which I'm thrilled about."

Aiken is Director of the Cyber Psychology Research Centre at the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin– a department that "explores the impact emerging technology has on human psychology."

There have been two previous 'CSI' spin-off series; 'CSI: Miami' and 'CSI: NY'. 'CSI: CYBER' will be the first in the crime franchise with a female lead. Arquette will play Avery Ryan, a special agent at the Cyber Crime Division of the FBI, tasked with solving high-octane crimes that "start in the mind, live on-line, and play out into the real world".
