US TV host Jimmy Kimmel is expecting a baby with his second wife.

It will be the 46-year-old’s first baby with Molly McNearney. He is already dad to daughter Katie (22) and son Kevin (20) with ex-wife Gina, who he divorced in 2002.

"I'm having a baby . . . wait I want to finish . . . with Ellen," Kimmel jokingly told Ellen DeGeneres on her chat show.

"No, I decided to have the first one with my wife. We got married in July and, you know, it's interesting. It's disgusting the way babies are made.

“There are so many human body parts involved. Did you know there are eggs in us? That's gross just to start with."

Kimmel and McNearney, who is a co-head writer on his chat show Jimmy Kimmel Live!, married in July 2013.

McNearney is eager to find out the gender of the new baby, but Kimmel said he’d like to wait.

“I would like it to be a surprise and my wife, Molly, was happy with that idea until about a week ago she started saying we really need to find out," he told Ellen.

"But I don't think it matters. I don't think you need to make the baby’s room blue or pink I mean it’s kind of - it’s inherently ridiculous. I don't think they could even see colours, right? I mean, or is that dogs I'm thinking of?"
