Happy radio days for DJ Jacqui

RTÉ 2XM DJ Jacqui Carroll was among ravers enjoying the Happy Mondays shows at Dublin's Olympia Theatre this week.

The 'mod' model has been building up a loyal following on RTÉ digital station 2XM playing Northern Soul and '60s Motown in her Ready Steady Go! slot at 8pm on Friday nights.

She brought some much needed order to the backstage chaos on Tuesday night when she turned up with her microphone to interview the band.

Modfather Paul Weller is another music star who gets Jacqui's full attention, having once invited her on three dates of a UK tour.

"Paul is a hero since I was a kid. If you're talking to him he listens to every single word you say," she says.

The 31-year-old DJ from Ballymun in Dublin is rapidly becoming a star on the local scene as the resident DJ at the monthly Ready Steady Go! club in the Grand Social as well as a jobbing actress.

Having appeared in a BBC pilot, she isn't sniffy about taking smaller roles: "I played a lady whose house gets broken into on Crimecall last week. It called for plenty of drama and sobbing."

Catch Jacqui's interview with the Inspiral Carpets on RTÉ 2XM tomorrow at 11am.
