Graham Norton: I rarely party with the stars, but I think it's time to try a celeb romance

Chat show king Graham Norton may have a couch full of A-listers every week but he has revealed he rarely mixes with celebrities.

The BBC host, who returns to Cork every year for three months to recharge his batteries, told how Lady Gaga is one of his favourite chat show guests along with Tom Cruise and Will Smith.

While he is on first-name terms with the world's most famous actors and music superstars, he has very few on them on speed dial.

He said: "I like going out but tend not to party with celebrities.

"I don't really know a lot of them in that way -- to ring them or anything. I might bump into someone and say hello but that's about it."

Norton, who split from his Canadian boyfriend earlier in the year, also told how he's never dated anyone famous.

"I don't think I've ever gone out with anyone in the industry so I probably should try that," he joked.

And he said he is not looking for a new romance as he is very content to be living in his London home with his two dogs Madge and Bailey.

"If someone came along then hoorah but I'm not composing a lonely hearts ad or trawling through the singles' columns," he said.

He also revealed that his recent pairing of Lady Gaga and EastEnders star June Brown on his show was one of his favourite TV moments.

He said: "Putting Gaga and June -- aka Dot Cotton -- together was TV gold. They got on like a house on fire. They loved each other.

"When that sort of thing happens and the couch really takes off it is my favourite thing. In fact it is one of the best shows I have ever done."

He also puts scientologists Tom Cruise and Will Smith among his favourite guests.

"If I were Tom Cruise I wouldn't bother (doing chat shows). Everyone wants him to be horrible or weird and he's just not," Norton said.

"I wish all our guests were scientologists because him and Will Smith were both brilliant."
