NEWS Anchors at a Fox affiliate channel in the US were left red-faced today after the control room accidentally flashed a picture of a penis on screen.

Fox 31 in Denver was covering today's helicopter crash in Seattle when the cock up happened.

The error occurred during a segment when the station shows viewer's pictures from Twitter.

Someone was clearly asleep in the control room however, as the image somehow slipped into the live broadcast.

The station's Facebook page was then inundated with comments.

"Hahaha!! I thought I was seeing things! Definitely didn't want to start my day off with some random junk in my face!" said one

"This Scene of Death and Destruction will Now be Interrupted by a Picture of Some Guy's Junk" another viewer commented.

While another simply said: "Let's see the Junk, Let's see the Junk."

The station has now apologised for the error, which it claims came from the control room.

It also denied viewer suggestions that one of the presenters, seen using a tablet during the broadcast, was behind the embarrassing incident.

"The photo was mistakenly broadcast by our control room. It did not come from the tablet many viewers saw being used by one of our anchors.

"We apologize (sic) for the inadvertent broadcast of the image and we are taking immediate steps to prevent such an accident from happening again."
