Film Highlights Tuesday

Limitless (2011)

Film4, 9.00pm

Based on a novel by Dublin writer Alan Glynn, Neil Burger's 'Limitless' is an energetic, if rather slight, thriller starring Bradley Cooper as a man whose life is changed forever by a dangerous new drug.

Eddie Morra is a failed and desperate writer until his ex-brother-in-law introduces him to an illegal experimental drug. When he takes it Eddie becomes a brilliant polymath, and after he's finished his book in four days he discovers a talent for high finance. But there are nasty side-effects, and Eddie will later regret borrowing $100,000 from a Russian mobster.

Robert De Niro co-stars as a Wall Street mogul, Abbie Cornish plays Morra's girlfriend, and Burger uses flashy effects to depict Eddie's altered state.

With Johnny Whitworth, Andrew Howard and Anna Friel.
