Film Highlights Sunday

Unstoppable (2010)

Channel 4, 9.00pm

Directed with his usual bluff aplomb by Tony Scott, 'Unstoppable' is an efficient and very enjoyable action thriller. When two halfwitted railway employees leave the engine of an 800-metre long freight train temporarily unmanned, it takes off at high speed without a driver and carrying a load of highly combustible chemicals.

As the train hurtles towards a heavily populated area, a veteran engineer (Denzel Washington) and his rookie sidekick (Chris Pine) embark on a desperate bid to stop it.

Slickly made and perfectly paced, 'Unstoppable' entertains pretty much from start to finish. Denzel Washington is as effortlessly charismatic as ever, and Chris Pine, who plays the young Captain Kirk in JJ Abrams' 'Star Trek' films, is a worthy foil.

With Rosario Dawson, Kevin Dunn and Ethan Suplee.

Mirror, Mirror (2012)

Channel 4, 6.00pm

This rather flat fantasy from Tarsem Singh stars Lily Collins as Snow White, the orphaned heir to a magical kingdom who's oppressed by her evil stepmother until a very unlikely saviour turns up in the form of a handsome but ineffectual prince. Julia Roberts and Armie Hammer co-star.

Meet the Fockers (2004)

BBC1, 10.25pm

In this sequel to the hit comedy 'Meet the Parents', things do not go swimmingly when Pam and Greg bring together their parents in advance of their wedding, only for Pam's paranoid, ex-CIA father to be horrified by his future son-in-law's permissive and hippyish parents. With Ben Stiller.

Jersey Girl (1993)

Sky Movies Drama, 10.40pm

Kevin Smith's creaky comic drama stars Ben Affleck as Ollie Tinkle, a busy media publicist who's devastated when his beloved wife dies in childbirth, leaving him an unlikely lone parent. He doesn't do all that well until he meets a beautiful young woman who may be able to help him. Liv Tyler and Raquel Castro co-star.

G I Joe: The Rise of the Cobra (2009)

Channel 4, 10.50pm

Bizarre, ill-advised action adventure based on the popular American children's toy and starring Channing Tatum and Marlon Wayans as members of an elite group of US soldiers who set out to rescue a terrifying new weapons system from the hands of a terrorist maniac. With Sienna Miller.

Streets of Blood (2009)
