Film Highlights Sunday
A Good Day to Die Hard (2013)
Sky Movies Premiere, 10.15pm
This fifth instalment in the 'Die Hard' franchise isn't a patch on the early films, but dedicated fans will probably enjoy it.
In 'A Good Day to Die Hard', John McClane (Bruce Willis, above with Jai Courtney) embarks on an adventure with a personal dimension, as his son John Jr is involved.
When he hears that his boy has been arrested in Moscow, John Senior sighs a number of times, heads to JFK and boards an Aeroflot hulk for Russia. Needless to say, father and son don't get on, otherwise what would they have to resolve?
And when McClane lands in Moscow he heads to the courthouse just in time to save his boy from a terrorist attack, after which father and son go on the run.
Sebastian Koch, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Cole Hauser co-star.
Monsters vs Aliens (2009)
In this hugely enjoyable Dreamworks animation inspired by the classic sci-fi movies of the 1950s, Reese Witherspoon provides the voice of Susan Murphy, a California news reporter who's hit by a radioactive meteor and grows to a height of 50 feet.
Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004)
Channel 4, 3.55pm
Jim Carrey is very entertaining in this nicely made black comedy based on the children's stories of David Handler. When three children inherit a fortune after their parents are killed in a fire, they are relentlessly pursued by an odious relative called Olaf. With Billy Connolly and Emily Browning.
RTE Two, 9.00pm
The most financially successful film of all time, James Cameron's groundbreaking sci-fi adventure stars Sam Worthington as a crippled marine who travels to a distant planet where he takes to the dense jungles in a specially developed 'avatar' body.
Shaun of the Dead (2004)
Simon Pegg co-wrote and stars in this clever 2004 film that mixes the genres of zombie horror and romantic comedy. Pegg is Shaun, a dissatisfied 30-something Londoner who's devastated when his girlfriend leaves him but finds redemption by becoming a zombie hunter after an unexpected invasion by the undead. With Nick Frost.
Paranormal Activity 2 (2010)
RTE Two, 11.55pm
In the second part of this seemingly interminable low-budget horror franchise, a family installs a hi-tech security system in their house after a supposed burglary, but quickly realise their home has been invaded by an ancient and malevolent spirit. Molly Ephraim and Katie Featherston star.
