Film Highlights Saturday

Gone Baby Gone (2007)

BBC2, 10.40pm

Not so many years ago Ben Affleck's film career appeared to be on the skids. After emerging somewhat mangled from his brief marriage to Jennifer Lopez, and following a string of flops like the awful superhero movie 'Daredevil', his star seemed on the wane. But he surprised a lot of people by reinventing himself as a director with this fine drama based on a novel by Dennis Lehane.

His younger brother Casey (above) stars as Patrick Kenzie, a tough private investigator in south Boston who becomes involved in a high-profile search for a missing child. The case is complicated by the fact that the child may have been neglected, and it's the beginning of a journey that will plunge Patrick and his girlfriend Angie into a nightmarish underworld.

With Michelle Monaghan, Morgan Freeman and Ed Harris.

Enchanted (2007)

BBC1, 5.05pm

Chaos ensues when a fairy princess with absolutely no sense of irony descends on New York in this clever and witty film that subverts the conventions of the classic Disney fairytales. Kevin Lima directs, and Amy Adams and James Marsden co-star.

Moon (2009)

RTE Two, 9pm

Duncan Jones' science-fiction drama stars Sam Rockwell as Sam Bell, the lone guardian of a lunar mining station run by a multi-national corporation, who begins to get the feeling he might not be alone. Kevin Spacey provides the voice of Gerty, a robot who may or may not be his friend.

Red Eye (2005)

TV3, 9.50pm

Cillian Murphy is a dab hand at playing maniacs, and he goes believably bananas again in this slight but original Wes Craven thriller about a young woman on an early morning flight from Dallas to Miami, who is informed by the passenger next to her that her father will be killed if she doesn't help him assassinate a senior politician.

The Squid and the Whale (2006)

TG4, 11.25pm

In Noah Baumbach's witty semi-autobiographical drama set in 1980s Brooklyn, Laura Linney and Jeff Daniels play a pair of feckless artsy parents who cause havoc in their children's lives when they decide to separate and start seeing other people. With Jesse Eisenberg, William Baldwin, David Benger, Anna Paquin and Owen Kline.

Fatal Attraction (1987)

RTE One, 12.05am

Adrian Lyne's grand guignol 80s thriller stars Glenn Close as a career woman who loses her head entirely when her married lover ends their affair and takes her revenge on his wife and their child. With Michael Douglas and Anne Archer.
