Film Highlights Saturday

Burke and Hare (2010)

BBC2, 10.15pm

The exploits of two serial killers who sold their victims' corpses for medical experiments might not sound like the stuff of comedy, but in John Landis' Burke and Hare a horrific true story is played for laughs.

Simon Pegg and Andy Serkis (both above) play William Burke and William Hare, two miscreants in early 19th century Edinburgh who hit on a novel money-making scheme.

The Scottish capital was then at the forefront of medical science, which meant that cadavers were at a premium. And after one of Hare's wife's lodgers dies, the pair succeed in selling the body to an eminent surgeon. Burke and Hare realise they're on to a nice little earner, but when they can't find corpses quick enough, they start manufacturing their own.

Tom Wilkinson and Isla Fisher co-star in this grisly and intermittently amusing comedy.

Crocodile Dundee (1986)

Channel 4, 7.15pm

A surprise hit in the mid-1980s, this crude but enjoyable comedy stars comedian Paul Hogan as Mick 'Crocodile' Dundee, a rugged Australian outdoorsman who's invited to New York by a glamorous American journalist and becomes something of a celebrity

in the Big Apple. With Linda Kozlowski.

Grown Ups (2010)

TV3, 9.00pm

When five old high school basketball team mates reunite at a summer lakehouse to mourn the passing of their coach, old friendships and rivalries are revived. Adam Sandler heads the cast of this unsubtle ensemble comedy, and Kevin James co-stars.

Wanted (2008)

Channel 4, 10.00pm

In Timur Bekmanbetov's flashy action thriller based on a series of graphic novels, James McAvoy plays a geeky office worker who discovers he has special powers and is being groomed for big things by a secret society of warriors. With Morgan Freeman, Angelina Jolie and Thomas Kretschmann.

Miami Vice (2005)

UTV, 11.00pm

In Michael Mann's dark, dour and rather confusing film based on his own hit 1980s cop show, Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx are flashy Florida detectives Tubbs and Crockett, who go undercover in order to infiltrate a notorious Cuban-Chinese drug cartel. With Gong Li, Ciaran Hinds and Luis Tomar.

Born on the Fourth of July (1989)
