Film Highlights Monday

Reservoir Dogs (1991)

TG4, 9.30pm

Former video store clerk Quentin Tarantino announced himself as a major new talent with this explosive crima drama inspired by noir classics like Stanley Kubrick's 'The Killing'. Tarantino had originally planned to shoot the film for $30,000 using amateur actors and friends, but when Harvey Keitel (pictured above with Tarantino) became involved they managed to raise $1.5million.

Keitel plays Mr White, the leader of a motley gang of sharply dressed criminals who meet in advance of a major heist. When the job goes horribly wrong, they repair to an abandoned warehouse with a policeman they've taken hostage. And as they try to figure out what went wrong, tensions spiral out of control. Tarantino handles it all very cleverly, mixing catchy 1970s pop tunes with moments of extreme violence. With Tim Roth and Steve Buscemi.

Now is Good (2012)

Sky Movies Drama, 2.05pm

Moving British drama starring Dakota Fanning as Tessa, a terminally-ill teenage girl whose determination to tick off a hedonistic list of experiences before she dies dissapates somewhat when she meets her handsome new next-door neighbour.

Elizabethtown (2005)

Sky Movies Drama, 5.50pm

Comic drama starring Orlando Bloom as a man who loses his job, is dumped by his girlfriend, hears that his dad has died and then decides to kill himself. But on the flight to the funeral he meets a jolly flight attendant (Kirsten Dunst) who will be key to his journey towards self-realisation.

Assault on Precinct 13 (2005)

Sky Movies Action, 7pm

In Jean-Francois Richet's remake of John Carpenter's classic 70s thriller, Ethan Hawke plays a young police sergeant who must somehow hold out against a heavily armed gang who've besieged his precinct, where a major druglord is being held until trial. With Laurence Fishburne.

Raising Arizona (1987)

TCM, 11pm

Nicolas Cage is great fun in this classic Coen brothers' comedy alongside Holly Hunter as a desperate and mismatched couple who can't conceive and so decide to steal one of a wealthy magnate's quintuplets on the principle that he'll hardly miss one of them. Bad idea. John Goodman, Trey Wilson and William Forsythe co-star.

44 Inch Chest (2009)

Film Four, 11.35pm

Rather nasty English thriller starring Ray Winstone as Colin Diamond, a cuckolded husband whose friends kidnap his wife's French lover so that Colin can get his own back. But after they subject the poor man to a kangaroo court, things get out of hand. Joanne Whalley and John Hurt co-star.
