Film Highlights Monday

North Country (2005)

TG4, 9.30pm

Charlize Theron stars in this slow but gritty drama based on a true story.

She plays Josey Aimes, a young mother in a blue collar northern Minnesota town in the late 1980s who struggles to find a job that will support her and her two children after she leaves her abusive husband. Encouraged by her old friend Glory (Frances McDormand), Josey decides to apply for work down the local iron mines.

But while she's able to handle the tough physical work the job demands, Josey is not prepared for the tide of hostility and harassment she's subjected to by the men. She and Glory are two of the only female miners in the area, and the men don't like them muscling in on their patch.

With Richard Jenkins, Sissy Spacek and Woody Harrelson. You've Got Mail (1998)

Sky Movies Drama, 2.35pm

Nora Ephron's slick remake of the classic 1940s romantic comedy 'The Shop Around the Corner' stars Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan as a man and woman who fall in love via email without realising that they are business rivals, and that his mega-book chain is about to strangle her book shop.

The Fog (2005)

TCM, 9pm

Very much a poor relation of the 1980 John Carpenter horror classic on which it's based, this Rupert Wainwright remake rehashes the story of a supernatural fog that envelops a coastal island community, bringing with it the vengeful crew of a 19th century clipper. With Selma Blair.

Skyline (2010)

Film Four, 9pm

This sweeping sci-fi extravaganza from special effects experts Colin and Greg Strause stars Eric Balfour and Scottie Thompson as a young Brooklyn couple who've flown west to Los Angeles to visit friends when the city is attacked by vicious aliens intent on laying waste to our lovely planet and feasting on our living brains.

The Dukes of Hazzard (2005)

Sky Movies Comedy, 9.45pm

Uninspired and lazy attempt to revive the rather basic 1970s TV drama cataloguing the adventures of easygoing southern siblings Bo, Luke and Daisy Duke, and their ongoing battle with Hazzard county's corrupt and crooked law enforcers. Bad Boys II (2003)

Sky Movies Action, 11.15pm

In this poor sequel to the 1995 action adventure yarn, Martin Lawrence and Will Smith reprise their roles as two smartass Miami detectives who stumble on an underground gang war when they're selected to head a task force to investigate the trafficking of ecstasy into the city.
