Could Carrigstown’s hard man Decco Bishop be leaving Chariot Couriers for a job at the local Credit Union? Only time will tell.

The local tough guy and his neighbours could have a few new job opportunities in sight, as well as a new gossiping haunt, as Fair City is to open its first Credit Union.

As part of a three-year sponsorship deal between RTE and the Irish League of Credit Unions, the village is set to welcome a Credit Union onto the street.

Head of Drama at RTE Jane Gogan said she thinks the two are a great fit as Ireland has one of the most popular credit movements in Europe.

“The presence of the Credit Union in Fair City is a natural fit for our drama in that it reflects the values and mores of community life in Ireland,” she said today.

“We are very pleased with this development and how it fits into our plans to make the show better and more relevant for RTÉ’s audience.”

At the moment, 471 Credit Unions in Ireland boast 3.1 million members.

No doubt more than half a million Fair City viewers will be tuning in to see if Dublin-born rockabilly singer and Credit Union ambassador Imelda May turns up for the opening...
