'Coronation Street' reportedly hands out bonuses in a bid to make cast stay on cobbles
‘Coronation Street’ have reportedly handed out new deals to fourteen of its cast members in a bid to make them stay on the show.
Actress Samia Ghadie, who plays hairdresser Maria Connor on the ITV soap, is among the stars reported to have been given a pay rise to remain on the fictional street.
Kate Ford (Tracy Barlow), Alan Halsall (Tyrone Dobbs) and Ryan Thomas (Jason Grimshaw) have signed new 12-month contracts.
“There has been a lot of change at Corrie and the bosses were determined not to lose more people,” a source told The Sun.
“But everyone was surprised when they decided to renew 14 contracts at once.
“It was quite a dramatic move, and reflects how keen they are to secure a host of cast members who they see as real assets.”
The reports come after popular actress Michelle Keegan left the soap. Keegan’s final scenes as character Tina McIntyre are expected to air in May.

The source said bosses were particularly keen to keep Samia Ghadie on the show after Keegan’s departure.
“The bosses were especially keen to keep Samia. Maria is popular and, after Michelle’s exit, they don’t want to lose any more young female stars,” the insider said.
The newspaper also reports that Samia, Sam Aston (Chesney Brown) and Katie McGynn (Sinead Tinker) are set to become involved in an upcoming dramatic storyline.
