Brian Dowling sitting pretty with prime-time TV3 show
TV3 has fired the first salvo in the lucrative battle for Saturday night viewers by signing up former 'Big Brother' winner Brian Dowling from Channel 5 to present a new prime-time slot light entertainment show.
"Saturday night is a key battleground for advertisers, with families a principal target for FMCG and other brands who want to target this audience. The new family show Sitting On A Fortune will be a big draw to these potential advertisers, particular as this traditional family viewing slot is so much sought-after," according to TV3 group commercial director Pat Kiely.
"The initial reaction I am getting from the ad agencies and big advertisers to our new line-up is extremely promising."
Sitting on a Fortune will be a co-production between 3Studios and RDF, with a budget of over €600,000. Under the co-production deal, TV3 will own 25 per cent of any future income from the show if it is sold or licensed abroad.
With the looming arrival of new station UTV Ireland next year, TV3 has been ratchetting up its home-produced shows, which will include brand-new soap Red Rock as well as winning the rights to the Rugby World Cup 2015.
It is thought that TV3 will spend up to €15m on new Irish programming.
