3,200,000,000 viewers in 140 countries... only the Olympics can come close
One US-based advertising agency has a handy way of explaining the appeal of the World Cup to soccer-phobic Yank corporate bosses, telling them to think of it as: "A Super Bowl. Every day. For a month."
And unlike the Super Bowl – the World Cup is a truly global event. While the most recent showcase event in American Football won a audience of 108 million people, Brazil 2014 should attract over 3.2 billion viewers in over 140 countries.
In terms of audience and advertising, this summer's finals will be the biggest global event ever. And that goes for social media too. Only the Olympics can come close to rival its global reach and impact.
