Watch: Cuban president Raul Castro leaves Barack Obama hanging in awkward hug attempt Newsdesk Newsdesk

President Barack Obama was left hanging when he attempted to hug his Cuban counterpart Raul Castro after a historic meeting between the pair.

This cringeworthy video captures the moments after the pair held a joint press conference in Cuba.

President Obama was on the Communist island to bury decades of Cold War difficulties between the countries.

However when he went to hug Castro the Cuban appeared to knock back the offer. Instead Castro caught his limp left arm and hoisted it up in moment that has left internet users cringing across the globe.

The two leaders were concluding a press conference, where they announced the signing of several agreements to increase cooperation and economic investment between the two countries.

It was the first visit by a US President to Cuba in 88 years.
