VIDEO: Sewer explosion flings boy 10 metres in air
A boy was thrown 10 metres in the air when he lit a firecracker near a sewer.
The accident on January 8 happened in Hohhot, the capital of north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, where the nine-year-old boy was crouching on top of sewer manhole.
The explosion was believed to have been caused by highly explosive biogas that accumulated inside the sewer below.
One onlooker said: "I thought I heard a flat tyre but there was smoke and it looked like something was thrown into the air - it turned out to be a boy."
The child landed on the back of a nearby car, sustaining severe head injuries and broken bones. Doctors say the boy is now in a stable condition.
