An inspirational post by a survivor of the Boston Marathon bombing, Rebekah Gregory, has gone viral.

Rebekah Gregory(27) posted a photograph holding her Boston Marathon entry number to her Facebook page, writing "This is the day...I take my life back".

Gregory lost her left leg in the Boston Marathon bombings in 2013 and, following 16 failed reconstructive surgeries, she returned to Boston to complete the marathon with a prosthetic limb.

Gregory had her leg amputated last November and her doctors warned her not to undertake the full marathon, so Gregory ran the final few miles of the route, finishing the race she never had the chance to finish in 2013.

"This time I won’t be laying on the ground in pieces..... (or being) pushed around on in a wheelchair".

""Today is the day I say goodbye to what is holding me back, and I reclaim my life".

Gregory shared a photograph of the moment she crossed the finish line with the quote '"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
