The Garda Traffic Twitter account has hit the headlines many times for it's inimitable sense of humour, but this time that lighthearted banter backfired.

The furore began when the account replied to a query online regarding the removing of "car parked on footpath", tweeting "report it to your Garda station".

The response asked "any chance you could do it?" and attached a photograph of the offending vehicles - which were a clearly marked Garda car and van.

The tweet received over 128 retweets but the Garda Traffic account took it in their stride, saying "This is not an avenue to report crime but will follow up", requesting more details about the location of the car.
