A mysterious couple whose romantic marriage proposal in a London park was captured from a police helicopter have made contact with the organisation, who caused their story to go viral when they attempted to identify the couple.

The message, which appeared to have been lit in sparklers or candles in north-west London’s Gladstone Park, was caught using the helicopter’s camera.

The identity of the couple was unknown and the Metropolitan police had tweeted from their official helicopter account looking to identify for the couple.

The Metropolitan police have clarified that the reason they are looking for the couple was simply "to pass on our best wishes".

The clarification came after Independent Entertainment readers asked why the police were looking for the couple and questioned if they had broken any laws.

An anonymous account, believing to be the man in question, tweeted a photograph of a couple hugging in front of what appears to be the same sign in lights with the caption "She said yes!"

“We were all very moved,” the staff of the helicopter said in one tweet.

Thermal footage allowed the police to capture the couple, including a man on one knee.
